    • VU+ Ultimo 4k, is software (image/drivers) stable and reliable enough already?

I am buying a new box and I am considering VU+ Ultimo 4k. I was wondering if there are any stability or compatibility issues compared to older boxers that had been out for longer? Does the box crash more often? Are some features not working?

Things will obviously improve in time but I want to know what is the situation like today.
    • I'm new to VU+ boxes.
Used my Topfield 5000 for over 10 years.

My first VU+ was the Ultimo 4k in December 2016.

SInce then my daily driver and I'm very happy.

As a Sat receiver you cant beat the Ultimo 4k. I would wish it had some better features as a media player (for non TS formats) but still ok.

    • Thanks for replying.

My main reason for wanting Ultimo is to occasionally do recording of 3 to 4 HD channels at the same time (while watching additional channel). Did you ever try that, and if so, were there any issues?

    • 16 concurrent programs recorded (only 13 shown here), then I stopped. No sweat.

And this is 'only' the Solo 4K, the Ultimo is more powerful.

    • No.

To my mind, that discussion would be academic, in any case. You might get problems with the recording of 8 or 9, or 4 or 5, or 20 programs... perhaps. So what?

In all seriousness: the 4K boxes are ARM based, the Solo4k is out for almost 2 years and the VTI support is extremely stable by now. So, I'd suspect that this holds true for Uno and Ultimo as well (because they are based on the same/similar openembedded, so it is not brand new bleeding edge). Even if there should be a problem, they get fixed pretty quickly here.

I don't think, there are better boxes out there right now, than the VU+ 4K boxes. That's in terms of stablity and performance. VU has set itself as a leader in this space for some reason.

Now, of course, this will all change, once Goliath comes out! :happy1:

    • Thanks for all the replies. Can someone please tell me does the receiver below have a single DVB-S2 FBC tuner or a dual DVB-S2 FBC tuner (occupying one slot, and DVB-C FBC tuner in another)? Does VU+ even make a single DVB-S2 FBC add on tuner?

    • The Ultimo 4k offers two FBC Tuner Slots.

Therefore the following FBC Tuner configs are possible.

2x DVB-S2 Full Band Capture Tuner
2x DVB-C Full Band Capture Tuner
1x DVB-S2 Full Band Capture Tuner
1x DVB-C Full Band Capture Tuner
1x DVB-C Full Band Capture Tuner +1x DVB-S2 Full Band Capture Tuner

Additionally one more normal, "oldschool" Tuner Slot is available so the following tuners can additionally be integrated.

      VU+ DVB-C/T2 dual Tuner
      VU+ DVB-S2 dual Tuner

If you need even more go wild and add more USB Tuners.

    • Oh did not know that. May I ask why?
    • The second tuner slot is not suitable for the DVB-C-Tuner.

    • DVB-C FBC can only go into first slot while DVB-S FBC can go into second as well?

A DVB-S2-FBC-Tuner is always a dual tuner. A single DVB-S2-FBC-Tuner is not available.
I see. I was a bit confused as the title says "DVB-S2 FBC / 1x DVB-C FBC Twin Tuner", implying that twin refers to having two different type of tuners, but below it does say "1x DVB-S2 FBC Twin / 1x DVB-C FBC Tuner"
